Professional Journey

Edward’s career began in the upstream energy industry, where he worked as a data processing geophysicist before steadily advancing to senior management roles in a multinational U.S. corporation. Over nearly three decades, he gained firsthand insight into the complexities of corporate culture, the pressures of career advancement, and the challenges of leadership. These experiences gave him a unique perspective on the emotional toll of professional life and the pursuit of success.

At the peak of his corporate career, Edward made a transformative decision: to follow his enduring curiosity about people and their life stories by becoming a professional counselor. This shift was driven by a desire to serve the community, particularly those with limited access to mental health support, and to help individuals and couples navigate the struggles that often remain hidden behind professional and personal achievements.

Counseling Practice

Since becoming a Licensed Counselor in 2019, Edward has worked with a wide range of clients, offering guidance through personal and relational challenges. His areas of specialization include:
    * Anxiety and depression
    * Grief and loss
    * Career transitions and workplace stress
    * Marital and relationship issues

Edward has supported couples facing deeply complex situations such as extra-marital affairs, critical illness, chronic conflict, and abusive dynamics. His commitment to community service is equally strong—he has provided financial literacy training to urban poor communities in Kayu Ara, Petaling Jaya, reflecting his belief that empowerment extends beyond emotional well-being to practical life skills. He also leads a team of lay counsellors in a non-profit organization, providing affordable mental health services.

Therapeutic Approach

Edward’s counseling style is rooted in empathy, respect, and collaboration. He employs a client-centered approach, tailoring his methods to the unique needs of each individual or couple. His practice integrates evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including:

* Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) – helping clients identify strengths and build practical solutions
* Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – reshaping thought patterns to improve emotional and behavioral outcomes
*  Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) – encouraging resilience and  alignment with personal values

* Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFCT) – fostering deeper emotional connection and communication (currently pursuing certification)

Philosophy of Care

Edward believes that counseling should be a safe and supportive space where clients feel genuinely heard and understood. His philosophy emphasizes  empowerment—helping individuals and couples not only cope with challenges but also discover pathways to growth and healing. He remains committed to ongoing professional development, ensuring his practice reflects the latest research and best practices in the field.

Ultimately, Edward’s mission is to extend the reach of counseling services to all especially to the marginalised communities, bridging the gap for those who might otherwise be excluded from mental health support. His blend of corporate experience and counseling expertise allows him to connect with clients from diverse backgrounds, offering both professional insight and compassionate care.
